Stan deal for Vodafone customers

Vodafone today announced it is kicking off its partnership with SVOD service Stan with an exclusive offer for existing eligible Vodafone Red customers – a three month subscription to Stan.

“We are excited to bring Vodafone Red customers a three month subscription to the biggest deal in entertainment, and it’s on us,” said Stephen Smyth, Vodafone’s General Manager of Postpaid.

“With the biggest library of content on an SVOD platform in Australia, and an exciting line-up of exclusive new shows, Stan is inviting Australians to discover new, exciting content. We’ve all had experience where we have turned on the TV and watched reruns of the same movie or TV show because there was nothing else on. Stan brings Australians choice in entertainment and together with Vodafone, we’re delivering this possibility to millions of customers to enjoy on their mobile devices.”

Stan’s Chief Executive Officer, Mike Sneesby, said, “We are thrilled to be Vodafone’s exclusive SVOD partner in Australia. They are global leaders in providing premium content for mobile customers and it’s exciting to be part of Vodafone’s entertainment offering in this market. With Stan, Vodafone customers can now enjoy access to the largest catalogue of TV shows and movies on an SVOD service in Australia, with new content added every day.”

From today, Vodafone is also making available to all new and upgrading customers the choice of a subscription to Stan when they sign up to any 12 or 24 month Vodafone Red plan.

• Vodafone $70 Red Plan and $80 Red plan customers can choose a 6 month subscription to Stan.
• Vodafone $100 Red Plan customers can choose a 12 month subscription to Stan.
Today’s announcement marks the latest move in premium content for Vodafone and gives customers more options than ever by building on existing partnerships with Spotify and Fairfax.

Customers connecting to a Red $80 or Red $100 plan will also enjoy bonus data, 2GB and 4GB respectively, every month for up to 24 months. Bonus data offer ends 5 May 2015. .

According to figures from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), almost one in every two Australians streamed video or audio content in the six months to June 2014.

Mr Sneesby said the dramatic growth of video streaming in Australia demonstrates that Australians want access to great content they can watch when and where they want.

“Since launch the response to Stan has by far exceeded our expectations. We are already streaming well in excess of 1 million hours of content a month and this is growing rapidly every day,” said Mr Sneesby.

Mr Smyth said that while industry figures are consistent with Vodafone customers’ consumption, he expects to see an increase in the use of video streaming services and a shift in viewing habits.

“We expect customers will welcome the ability to transform their “dead time” – their lunch breaks and commutes – by snacking on their favourite TV shows and movies throughout the day, and using their traditional “TV time” at home to binge-watch,” said Mr Smyth.

“It’s an exciting proposition, and one we’re thrilled to bring to Vodafone customers,” said Mr Smyth.
