‘Dead Lucky.’

AMC Networks’ premium subscription streaming service Sundance Now has acquired multiple territory rights to Dead Lucky, the SBS-commissioned crime thriller starring Rachel Griffiths and Yoson An.

Created and written by Ellie Beaumont and Drew Proffitt, the four-part show directed by David Caesar follows two feuding detectives as they hunt down a killer, leaving a trail of broken lives across the city.

Sundance Now will screen the series in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland and German-speaking territories in Europe. The deal was negotiated by UK-based DRG, which will pitch the show to buyers at the MIPTV Market next week in Cannes.

Griffiths plays Grace Gibbs, who is obsessed with catching the armed robber who murdered her junior officer.

Yoson An, whose credits including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Mortal Engines, the upcoming Universal Pictures sci-fi/fantasy/adventure produced and co-written by Peter Jackson, is Charlie Fung, her new trainee who blames Grace for the death of his best friend.

The plot also involves a share-house of international students and a pair of corrupt shop owners. The cast includes Mojean Aria, Aldo Mignone, Anna Samson, Ian Meadows, Rhys Muldoon, Annie Maynard, Brooke Satchwell, Sara West, Lincoln Younes, Matt Nable and Justine Clarke.

The first production from Beaumont and Proffitt’s Subtext Pictures, co-funded by Screen Australia and Create NSW, it will premiere on SBS in July. Diane Haddon produced together with Beaumont and Proffitt, who were the showrunners on Playmaker Media’s House Husbands.

Jan Diedrichsen, general manager, SundanceTV and Sundance Now, said: “The Sundance brand is synonymous with great storytelling and Dead Lucky is sure to appeal to Sundance Now’s subscriber base, who come to the service for high-quality content from around the globe.”
