Three Aussies up for kids Emmys

Three Australian programs, all screened on the ABC, have been nominated for the International Emmy® Kids Awards.

Matchbox Pictures’ Nowhere Boys and Werner Film Productions’ Dance Academy 3 will compete for best kids series and 1440 Productions’ Heart & Soul is in the running for kids factual series.

Let’s Get Inventin’ from New Zealand’s Luke Nola & Friends is nominated in the non-scripted entertainment category.

The winners will receive their Emmys at the third International Emmy® Kids Awards on February 20 at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York.

Nowhere Boys creator Tony Ayres told IF, "It’s very exciting to have two Australian shows in one category and three Australian nominations overall. It shows, yet again, that our work is of the highest international standard."

Heart & Soul is a 13-part series about the Sweethearts, a 30-piece, all female soul band from Geelong whose members are all still in high school. The show followed the Sweethearts’ quest to play Europe’s top music festivals.

Created for 1440 Productions by Kristy Fuller and Lynda Morgan, the series aired on ABC3. A second season is now in post-production, charting a turbulent year for the Sweethearts which culminates in their first tour of America.

The nominations span 17 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

“The geographic spread and the wealth of topics addressed in this year’s nominated programs attests to the vibrancy and quality of children’s television throughout the world,” said Bruce L. Paisner, president/CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

“The International Academy is proud to be the global platform for a unique selection of international programming and we are looking forward to the third edition of these awards.”

The International Emmy® Kids Awards presenting partners are Ernst & Young, Hasbro Studios, MIPTV/MIPJr, Shaw Rocket Fund, SVT/DRTV, TV Kids and WDR.

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences represents 500 companies from more than 50 countries from all sectors of the TV industry including internet, mobile and technology.
