Wolf Creek 2 has started principal photography in South Australia, with John Jarratt once again stepping into the role of sadistic serial killer Mick Taylor.

The sequel comes seven years after the original horror feature hit screens internationally and enjoyed great commercial success, despite mixed reviews.

Directed by Greg Mclean, written by Mclean and Aaron Sterns, and produced by Helen Leake (Swerve, Black and White, Heavens Burning), Greg Mclean and Steve Topic (Crawlspace), the sequel, with the exception of Jarratt, features a brand new cast of exciting Australian talent.

“It’s really exciting to work with John Jarratt once more to delve deeper into the fascinating character of Mick Taylor. We’ve assembled a phenomenal cast and crew who are all working incredibly hard to deliver an even more thrilling ride than the first movie. It’s bigger, badder and should be a wild experience for audiences all over the world”, said Mclean.

Roadshow Films Managing Director, Joel Pearlman said, “The original Wolf Creek had an amazing response from the Australian audience, so we are thrilled to be part of the team bringing the next instalment of this chilling story back to the nation.”

Starring alongside Jarratt are Ryan Corr (Packed to the Rafters), Shannon Ashlyn (Puberty Blues, Devil's Dust), and Philipe Klaus (Devil's Dust, Rake).

Many of the crew members and production team who worked on the original film will return for the sequel, including production designer Rob Webb (The Loved Ones, Tomorrow When The War Began), costume designer Nicola Dunn (Red Hill, Rogue), editor Sean Lahiff (Swerve) and composer Johnny Klimek (Killer Elite, Cloud Atlas).

Sadly, the reunion will be somewhat marred by the absence of cinematographer Will Gibson, who passed away unexpectedly in 2007. Gibson, who worked as the Director of Photography on the first Wolf Creek film, will be replaced by Toby Oliver (Looking for Alibrandi, 33 Postcards.)

Wolf Creek 2 will be distributed in Australia by Roadshow Films. International sales are being handled by Arclight Films.

  1. Great to hear that Mick Taylor, played by one of the great and best Oz actors Johnny Jarratt, will return in Wolf Creek 2. About time. Shame that Harold Hopkins wont be there. Wishing, this time out for all concerned, a great journey. That will thrill and scare the world. Regards, Christopher Pate.
