South Australia will once again partner with the multiple award-wining creative team behind Look Both Ways, Bridget Ikin and Sarah Watt, who have reunited to create the new feature film My Year Without Sex.
The South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and the Adelaide Film Festival have jointly committed a total of $250,000 funding for the project, which received Film Finance Corporation funding approval earlier this week.
The $4 million project will begin shooting in Melbourne from March next year with the post-production to be completed in South Australia throughout 2008. The film will have its premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival in 2009.
SAFC CEO Richard Harris said ‘We are thrilled South Australia can be involved with another project from this exciting creative team. Look Both Ways was a significant collaboration for the local industry and the Adelaide Film Festival and we are keen to see this relationship develop further.’
Adelaide Film Festival Director Katrina Sedgwick said ‘My Year Without Sex is the first film to receive support through AFF Investment Fund as we develop our 2009 slate. After such a great collaboration previously, it’s really good to be working with this creative team again and that with the SAFC we can support this wonderful script to be realised on the screen.’
My Year Without Sex is a family tale recounted with a distinctive blend of humour and drama that has marked Watt out as one of Australia’s most original filmmakers. As in the American hit Little Miss Sunshine, My Year Without Sex will take the viewer on a journey through the messy, and often hilarious, situations that domestic life throws up. It suggests that a keen sense of irony is the best way to survive the journey.
