Film Australia welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement that the threshold for documentary production to access the Producer Offset will be lowered from $500,000 to $250,000 for programs of at least a commercial half hour.
Film Australia CEO Ms Daryl Karp said ‘It is pleasing to see that the consultative process has brought the documentary sector together to identify priorities and present a compelling case to the Government.’
‘Film Australia supported a lower threshold, providing an entry point for faster turnaround, lower budget and single documentaries, an area that is being increasingly squeezed by contemporary financing trends.’
‘The recognition that documentaries often need to film in locations outside Australia to deliver an Australian perspective is also welcome,’ she added.
Film Australia is one of the nation’s leading producers of television documentaries and educational programs. An Australian Government-owned company, Film Australia’s mission is to create an audio-visual record of Australian life.
