The Australian Writers’ Guild is calling for entries for the 55th Annual AWGIE Awards.

Celebrating the very best in Australian stage and screenwriting, the AWGIE Awards recognise and reward the outstanding achievements of Australian storytellers and their contribution to Australia’s cultural landscape.

This year, there are some major updates to the categories, including:

• Theatre – stage has been split into original and adapted.
• Audio has been split into fiction and non-fiction.
• The television series and miniseries categories have been changed to series and limited series or telemovie.

Writers of works that significantly depict the lived experiences of minority cultures or communities outside the writer’s own lived experience are invited to accompany their entry with a short statement outlining the processes and practices that allowed them to confidently complete the submitted work.

Finally, in recognition of the impact COVID-19 had on our industry in 2021, the AWGIE Awards will continue to consider the entry of works cancelled or defunded due to the pandemic. Please refer to the ‘COVID-19 cancelled or defunded works’ section in the guidelines for details.
