Children’s International Film Festival
May 27, 2023 @ 8:00 am - June 12, 2023 @ 5:00 pm
The Children’s International Film Festival (CHIFF) will be held May 27– June 12 across Ritz Cinemas Randwick in Sydney and Classic Cinemas Elsternwick, Lido Cinemas Hawthorn, and Cameo Cinemas Belgrave in Melbourne.
This year’s program features 21 Australian premiere titles and one retrospective feature tailored to young filmgoers aged from 3 years old and up.
Highlights of the line-up Brando Quilici’s The Tiger’s Nest, an adventure film set and shot in the Himalayas that tells the story of a young orphan boy, Balmani, who rescues a tiger cub from ruthless poachers.
There is also the Australian premiere of three new episodes from Darren Robbie’s Moominvalley: Lonely Mountain. Based on Tove Jansson’s works, the series follows Moomintroll and his daring companions take the audience on a series of exciting adventures.
Elsewhere, there is Carlo Vogele’s Icarus and the Minotaur, an animated retelling of the myth of Icarus that was Luxembourg’s submission for the Best International Feature Film category of this year’s Academy Awards; Ham Tran’s Maika: The Girl from Another Galaxy, a Vietnamese science-fiction comedy; Alma’s Way, a Canadian and American animated series created by actor and writer Sonia Manzano; and a special screening of George Miller’s Babe: Pig in the City to mark the sequel’s 25th anniversary.
Attendees also have the opportunity to dance with disco lights and glowsticks at Auntie Rita’s Party, attend teddy bear picnics for Hug Me – The Movie, create galaxy artwork at Headspace, dress up as cowboys for Billy the Cowboy Hamster, and wear princess attire for Dragon Princess. Prizes are available for the best-dressed.
