Press Release from Inition
The 2011 Rugby World Cup is set to be broadcast live in 3D to arenas and cinemas across Australia and New Zealand as well as going globally via satellite using Australian know-how provided by Inition.
The final four matches (two semi finals, the Bronze final and Final) will be broadcast in high definition 3D to millions of fans worldwide, using state-of-the-art production technology.
The stereoscopic know-how for the broadcast is being supplied by Technical Producers Inition which pioneered the field with the world’s first stereoscopic 3D satellite transmission in March 2008 – a Six Nations match between England and Scotland.
Eight 3D cameras will provide footage from various angles to give the audience an enhanced sense of realism and immediacy.
‘It’s better than the best seats in the house – it’s like being on the pitch with the players’ says Inition Asia Pacific’s Head of Production, Markus Stone. ‘the mobile railcam and stedicam will add a whole new dimension to 3D sports coverage making it a more dynamic and immersive experience’
Inition will be responsible for the 3D aspects of the production, which includes everything from advising on equipment, setting up and operating the 3D camera rigs, advising on the best signal processing path for 3D and consulting on the overall process.
Inition will also supply technology of its own making in the form of Stereobrain SB-1's which will take the signals from the two cameras and allow them to be viewed directly on a 3D monitor in the broadcast truck's nerve-center of operations.
The broadcast will also go live to 40 cinemas across Australia and New Zealand before going out to foreign territories.
The 2007 Rugby World Cup attracted a cumulative average audience of 4,200 million viewers (4.2Bn).
