Lightning strikes twice for Box Wars

Box Wars, a locally-produced mockumentary short has been selected to screen at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival (MUFF) 8. Having recently premiered nationally at Revelations – Perth International Film Festival 2007, screening at MUFF 8 will be its Victorian premiere.

Director David Broder mused, ‘we are thrilled to be selected for MUFF. Box Wars seems to have found its home in festivals that focus on non-competition; where films are chosen on quality and merit rather than what may be popular, or a potential prize-winner’. Megan Spencer, well-known film-maker/critic and Artistic Director of Revelations 2007 recently paid Box Wars the ultimate compliment as ‘the first mockumentary to ever fool me into believing it was real!’.

Box Wars explores the unusual passion of several curious Australians for one-on-one combat in an underground culture movement, Box Wars. The film utilises a real-life, low-fi documentary approach to quietly delve issues such as: Why do we do what we do? How do our hobbies define who we are? Where does your real life end, and passion for your hobby begin?

And just what is Box Wars? It’s a marriage of the polar opposites of gladiatorial skill, combative desire, creativity and cardboard. Imagine Fight Club meets Playschool meets Spinal Tap

In cardboard, no-one can hear you scream.
MUFF 8 commences Thursday 20 September.
