Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.

Paramount's Jack Reacher: Never Go Back has debuted on top of the box office, bowing on 250 screens for $2.6 million.

The Edward Zwick-directed sequel, starring Tom Cruise, knocked off eOne's The Girl On the Train, which rang up $1.9 million over its third weekend – a fall of 28 per cent. Tate Taylor's adaptation of Paula Hawkins's 2015 novel has amassed $11.2 million so far.

Fox's action comedy Keeping up with the Joneses debuted in third, opening on 235 screens to take $1.09 million.

Just behind was Sony's Inferno, which brought in $1.07 million over its second weekend  a fall of 52 per cent. The third film in the series that began with 2006's The Da Vinci Code has made $4 million so far.

Universal's Ouija: Origin of Evil has debuted on $915,402 from 167 screens  a screen average of $5,481, higher than both Keeping Up With The Joneses and Inferno.

Now in its fourth week, Fox's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children slipped 35 per cent with takings of $633,326. The Tim Burton film is now on $10.4 million overall.

Roadshow's Deepwater Horizon fell 49 per cent over its third weekend, taking $480,493, and now sits on $4.1 million overall.

The Magnificent Seven also took a tumble  53 per cent  taking $338,036 over its second weekend. The Sony title's cume is now $8.1 million.

Universal's Bridget Jones's Baby took $291,049 and sits on $16.8 million after six weeks. Behind it and rounding out the top ten was fellow Universal title The Secret Life of Pets, with a cume of $28.97 million after seven weeks on screens.

The highest grossing Aussie film of the week was Joe Cinque's Consolation, which made $34,560 from 12 screens over its second weekend. The feature debut from Sotiris Dounoukos has made $101,992 so far.

Mushroom's Boys In the Trees debuted with $5,672 from 11 screens, while Umbrella's Girl Asleep has made $213,107 after seven weeks.

Sony's Spin Out, with billboards on every other metro bus, has made $679,402 after six weeks and is still on 28 screens.

Transmission's body image doco Embrace is still on 16 screens after 12 weeks, and sits on $261,022.
