New Australian film Observance will have its Western Australian premiere at Revelation Perth International Film Festival on Monday 30 May.
Observance is the story of a grieving father returning to work as a private investigator and embarking on an unusual assignment to observe a woman from an abandoned apartment.
The film was previously selected for screening at the BFI London Film Festival and FanTasia International Film Festivals.
Observance was billed as ‘one of the most chilling experiences’ by The Hollywood Reporter and as ‘sheer ambient dread’ by Indiewire.
The film’s writer-director Joseph Sims-Dennett said he was honoured to have his film screening at Australian Revelations.
“Revelation has been leading Australia in discovering the next wave of international local independent films for almost 20 years now,” Sims-Dennett said.
Revelation Director Richard Sowada said Observance was a very slick film with great respect for the language and traditions of cinema.
“It walks a very tense line between drama, thriller and horror,” he said.
“You’re never really sure what’s going to happen next and from what direction.”

Revelation Perth International Film Festival, in association with Cinema Australia, presents Australian Revelations as a celebration of Australian film via monthly screenings.
Australian Revelations also screens a WA-made short film before each main feature, giving local filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their films on a big screen. Preceding Observance will be the locally made short film Harvey’s Dream.
Observance will screen at The Backlot Perth on Monday 30 May from 6.30pm with a post-screening Q and A with writer/director Joseph Sims-Dennett.
