Film Victoria CEO Jenni Tosi.
Film Victoria will award grants of up to $25,000 for female practitioners in the gaming industry as part of its Women in Games fellowship.
"Film Victoria has taken the lead in establishing a new Women in Games Fellowship to address the current gender imbalance, specifically the low number of women occupying key roles in the local and international games industries", Film Vic CEO Jenni Tosi told IF.
"While women make up 47% of the Australian game playing audience, only 8.7% of Australian game creators are female".
"Victorian games companies are leaders in creating games that appeal to global audiences. We want to ensure there are meaningful opportunities for women to achieve their potential as creators and influencers, whether through working for others or ultimately running their own companies".
"Increasing the level of women occupying key creative and business roles will further strengthen and enhance the output of the Victorian games industry. We know there are many talented women itching to test their skills and ideas – these fellowships are intended to support their journey to having successful and influential careers".
Fellowships can be proposed in a broad range of areas and undertaken through a variety of methods. Examples include, but are not limited to, business courses, internships with local or international companies, or structured mentorships.
Applicants must be a woman and a Victorian resident, have at least three years of professional experience in the games development industry in a creative, development or production role, and be able to demonstrate a commitment to a career in the games industry.
