SYD 2030 Nominated for Academy Award

Press Release from Cheese on Toast Productions

Sydney’s own Web Series SYD2030 has just been nominated for an International Academy of Web Television Award.

SYD2030 will be part of the highly acclaimed International Academy of Web Television Awards (IAWTA) in Las Vegas. This premiere festival creates an international platform for web content, to be viewed and potentially picked up by industry greats. SYD2030 was chosen by the esteemed board members of the International Academy of Web Television from over 500 web series from across the Globe! SYD2030 has been nominated along side a multitude of star-studded big budget productions, including web series’ staring Hollywood A listers Tom Hanks and Julia Stiles. SYD2030 has been nominated in the category of Best Editing.

“Web television is one of the fastest growing and most influential forms of entertainment, with a global audience increasing exponentially,” said Paul Kontonis, Chairman of the Board of Directors for IAWTV. “The IAWTV Awards honors the best in original web television and series programming. It is voted on by the IAWTV membership, which includes the content creators, distributors, producers, talent, studios, and networks that are shaping the digital entertainment industry every day.”

SYD2030 is a 12 part Web Series created by Sydney based production company Cheese on Toast Productions. SYD2030 includes an all Sydney based cast, crew, designers, musicians, and locations. With 12 episodes, approximately 5 – 10 minutes each, SYD2030 is a perfect way to enjoy bite-sized pieces of entertainment without indigestion! Boasting an impressive young cast, including AFI Award winner Sophie Luck, SYD2030 follows the lives of five university law students, struggling to balance their hectic social lives with a demanding workload. But, while the textbooks are hefty
and the teachers strict, it’s the sexual escapades, drug overdoses, boozy scandals and naughty secrets that keep the students of SYD2030 really on their toes. You can check out all the drama of SYD2030 at www.syd2030.com.au

Despite filming in Sydney’s wettest summer in history, not to mention the helicopter rescues, corrupted disks, broken equipment and some 21 hour shoots, SYD2030 is an impressive achievement for anyone, let alone a team of under 24’s. SYD2030, a self-funded project has already proven to be an International success. Since the series release in early 2012, SYD2030 has won ‘Best International Webseries’ at the LA Film, TV and Webisode Festival, and was nominated in the Drama category at the International Television Festival. Locally, SYD2030 has screened at the opening night of Indie Gems Film Festival where the team behind the series won a prestigious editing package from Spectrum Films Australia. SYD2030 will also be screened on ABC iview in early 2013.

SYD2030 was edited by Alexander Barnett – a 24 year old freelance editor, originally from Western Sydney. When asked how Alex, the assistant editor of Channel 7’s Home and Away felt about the prestigious nomination he couldn’t believe it! “It will take a while before the news of the nomination will fully sink in, it is such a HUGE DEAL for us all! I’m so proud of what we have achieved; this nomination proves what young AUSTRALIAN independent filmmakers can do! You don’t need big budgets or fancy equipment…you just need to work f**king hard! SYD2030 started off as a script, a dream that was only made possible with the help of a lot of very talented people. We have all worked so hard, SYD2030 has become our lives and I wouldn’t have it any other way!”

The Cheese on Toast family hopes to be walking the red carpet and mingling with Hollywood’s elite at the awards ceremony this January.
