Pinnacle Films is delighted to announce it has secured Australia and New Zealand distribution rights for Clouds of Sils Maria at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Playing in official competition, Clouds of Sils Maria is a German/French/ Swiss co-production that will screen at the festival on 23 May 2014.
Written and directed by Olivier Assayas and starring Academy Award winner Juliette Binoche, the film is a story close to both their hearts, inspired by their relationship working together at the beginning of their careers on Rendez-Vous, in 1985, and later with the 2008 Summer Hours.
Synopsis: At the peak of her international career, Maria Enders (Juliette Binoche) is asked to perform in a revival of the play that made her famous twenty years ago. But back then she played the role of Sigrid, an alluring young girl who disarms and eventually drives her boss Helena to suicide. Now she is being asked to step into the other role, that of the older Helena.
She departs with her assistant (Kristen Stewart) to rehearse in Sils Maria; a remote region of the Alps. A young Hollywood starlet with a penchant for scandal (Chloë Grace Moretz) is to take on the role of Sigrid, and Maria finds herself on the other side of the mirror, face to face with an ambiguously charming woman who is, in essence, an unsettling reflection of herself.
Made by French production company CG Cinema, Clouds of Sils Maria is releasing in France in August 2014 with a local release date to be advised.
