Hollywood star Billy Zane has been filming in Canberra this month for independent sci-fi action feature, Blue World Order.
The actor, best known for his roles in The Phantom, Titanic and Back to the Future, has been cast as ‘Master Crane’ and will appear alongside cinema great Jack Thompson and the film’s leading man, Jake Ryan.
Directed by Canberra locals Ché Baker and Dallas Bland, Blue World Order follows Jake Slater (Ryan), an ordinary man who accidentally discovers an unknown civilisation called The Order. Believing it may hold the cure for his comatose daughter Molly, he seeks out mad scientist Madcap (Stephen Hunter), only to discover there’s much more at stake than he ever could have predicted.
“This film is a first for Canberra in terms of the scale of production and the calibre of people we’ve attracted,” Baker says.
“Having Billy Zane star in Blue World Order is a real pleasure. He’s been working in Hollywood for thirty years on some of the biggest films ever made.
“I couldn’t have imagined this during the late night planning; he brings a new feeling to the production. ‘Master Crane’ is larger than life and Billy is perfect for the role.”
A post on the film's Facebook page stated shooting has now wrapped.
The film is set for release in early 2016. Arclight Films is set to handle international sales, with Label as the local distributor.
