After 30 years in the Australian music industry and with a name synonymous with licensing rights, Belinda Yates has established her own music consultancy, Belinda Yates & Associates.
Considered one of the country’s most experienced licensing people and one of the best negotiators, Yates left EMI in December after 19 years.
Following a well earned break Yates has launched her own business offering her years of experience and long established contacts to agencies and producers consulting on all aspects of music licensing from deal negotiation and song searches to advising clients on options to suit their budgets and copyright issues.
As Creative Services Manager at EMI, Yates licensed copyrights for advertising, film, corporate, internet and theatrical productions. This included licensing deals for world famous catalogues; The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Disney, Motown. Not to mention top local acts, Men At Work, Savage Garden, The Veronicas, Divinyls, and The Whitlams
As well, Yates has negotiated rights for some of Australia’s most iconic advertising campaigns including Telecom “Memories”, NRMA “Help” and the NRL’s “Simply the Best” and most recently NAB’s “Climb Every Mountain”, Telstra’s “I’ve Been Everywhere Man” and the worldwide rights for Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle “L.O.V.E”.
She has negotiated music rights for some of Australia’s best known and most loved films and stage and television shows – Happy Feet, Babe, The Dish, Boy from Oz, Priscilla Queen of the Dessert, Shout, Australian Idol, It Takes Two and Bodyline to name just a few.
