The four successful candidates will be announced at the Sydney Film Festival (June 8-19 2016).
An AFTRS film will also screen at Hot Docs in Canada, the most prestigious documentary festival in North America.
After the screening there will be a conversation with the stars, including Ellen Barkin and Scott Speedman.
In Sydney, the festival saw 16,500 attendees through the doors of its eight venues.
The 14th annual Gold Coast Film Festival will also host guests Reg Cribb, David Stratton, Claudia Karvan and Gracie Otto.
