Donkey in Lahore competing at Tribeca Film Festival

Faraway Productions’ feature documentary Donkey in Lahore competing at 7th Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

Brisbane-based production company Faraway Productions Pty Ltd (Faramarz K-Rahber & Axel Grigor) is delighted to announce that its feature documentary Donkey In Lahore has been selected for the 7th Annual Tribeca Film Festival in New York, which takes place April 23 – May 4.

The film is one of only 12 international documentaries competing in the festival¹s World Documentary Competition.

Donkey In Lahore is an unusual love story that follows the quixotic courtship of Brian, an ex-goth puppeteer from Australia, and Amber, the traditional Muslim girl he met and fell in love with during a short trip to Pakistan in 2000. Upon his return to Australia, Brian decides to convert to Islam and return to Pakistan to seek her hand in marriage. Can this unlikely couple survive the challenges they are about to face?

Tribeca Film Festival is one of the most prominent film festivals in the world. It was founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff in 2002 with the mission of contributing to the revitalization of lower Manhattan in the wake of the September 11 disaster. Six years later, the Festival has grown at a remarkable pace, and brings together both members of the international film community and movie-lovers to celebrate the power of film.

Donkey In Lahore has previously screened at major film festivals such as IDFA (Netherlands), Gothenburg Film Festival (Sweden), Brisbane International Film Festival (Australia) and is set to screen at the Singapore International Film Festival in mid-April. An hour-version of the film screened on SBS in February this year.

It was produced & directed by Faramarz K-Rahber and line produced & edited by Axel Grigor. Mark Chapman of Big Island Pictures was the film¹s executive producer. The film was developed in association with the Australian Film Commission, produced in association with SBS Independent (commissioning editors: Ned Lander & Trevor Graham) and financed by Film Finance Corporation Australia (investment managers: Susan McKinnon & Julia Overton).
