Five Star – David Dhalatnghu Gulpilil

July 28, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The legacy of screen icon David Dhalatnghu Gulpilil will be honoured and celebrated at two special events taking place in Darwin on Thursday, July 28, culminating in a one-night-only public event at Darwin’s Deckchair Cinema, hosted by his family and friends.

Storytellers, speakers, and guests include Witiyana Marika, Ernie Dingo, Lillian Crombie, John Jarratt, Jida Gulpilil, Trevor Jamieson, Aunty June Mills, and more.

Tickets are now on sale for Five Star – David Dhalatnghu Gulpilil. Named after the way this screen legend often referred to himself and how signed his name, Five Star is an intimate presentation of rare and previously-unseen footage, family photos, short films, and stories told by those who knew him not just as the “best dancer in the world” but as a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather, mentor and friend.

In the morning, a formal Condolence Motion by the Northern Territory Government at Darwin’s Parliament House will recognise, acknowledge and record forever Gulpilil’s contribution to the world.

This unique day, following his passing in November, and ahead of his Bupurru, his funeral Ceremony on Country, is an opportunity for people to gather together, and reflect on his extraordinary.

In a mark of respect, Dhalatnghu will also be honoured during Australia’s leading cultural exchange event, Garma (July 29-Aug 1), Arnhem Land, with a special screening of his final film directed by Molly Reynolds, My Name is Gulpilil introduced by Witiyana Marika and Jack Thompson.
