First Offset co-pro starts filming in Brisbane

Triangle, a UK/Australian co-production starring Melissa George, started principal photography on Friday 6th June, filming at Queensland’s Warner Roadshow Studios and at various locations on the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Co-starring with Melissa George are some of Australia’s most exciting, young and upcoming actors including Michael Dorman (Daybreakers), Rachael Carpani (McLeod’s Daughers) and Henry Nixon (Noise).

Triangle is written and directed by British filmmaker Christopher Smith (Severance) and produced by Dan Films’ Jason Newmark and Julie Baines in the UK, and Chris Brown from Pictures In Paradise in Australia.

It will be distributed worldwide by Icon Entertainment International and is the first co-production to be financed under the new producer offset scheme, through Investec (Bank) Australia Pty Ltd arranged by See-Saw Films.

Triangle, a psychological thriller, is set inside the Bermuda Triangle. Jess, (Melissa George), a young single mother, is invited to join her friend Greg (Michael Dorman) for a day aboard his sailboat with friends. Disaster strikes when a violent storm causes the boat to capsize. As the survivors cling to the upturned hull, salvation arrives in the form of a massive ocean liner that appears through the fog.

One of the film sets includes a replica of a luxury ocean liner, three-storeys high, that is currently being built on the water at the Southport Seaway on the Gold Coast.

Australian actress Melissa George is quickly emerging as one of the most promising new actors of her generation. In January 2008 the anticipated HBO series In Treatment premiered with Melissa taking a starring role. The series co-stars Gabriel Byrne and Diane Weist.

George recently starred as the female lead opposite Josh Hartnett and Danny Huston in the Sony Pictures’ Film 30 Days of Night, which took the number one slot in the box office on its opening weekend. Later this year The Weinstein Company will release George’s next film Waz.

Comments writer/director Chris Smith: “I’ve always loved movies that play with structure and time, like Memento and Reservoir Dogs. I wanted to employ these techniques in a psychological thriller narrative and I’m really thrilled that my script has attracted such a brilliant cast, including Melissa George and Michael Dorman, to help me do this.”

Icon Entertainment International, Framestore Features and the UK Film Council’s Premiere Fund present, in association with The Pacific Film and Television Commission, a Dan Films and Pictures In Paradise Production starring Melissa George, Michael Dorman, Rachael Carpani, Henry Nixon, Emma Lung and Liam Hemsworth.

The director of photography is Robert Humphreys; production designer Melinda Doring; editor Stuart Gazzard; line producer Tom Hoffie; executive producers Steve Norris, Mark Gooder, Stefanie Huie and producers Jason Newmark, Julie Baines and Chris Brown.
