Golden Age is determined to continue luring you out of hibernation this winter, with icons, artists, musicians, angels and astronauts all up on the Golden Screen for the Winter Program Part II.
HITCHCOCK WINTER MATINÉES
On weekends throughout July and August, Golden Age is screening some of Alfred Hitchcock's best in a retrospective of the director's extensive career. Come and get cinematically schooled by the Master of Suspense himself, through screenings of Shadow of a Doubt, Rope, Rear Window, The Trouble With Harry, To Catch a Thief, The Man Who Knew Too Much, North by Northwest, Psycho and Vertigo.
TOURISM VICTORIA PRESENTS DAVID BOWIE WEEK
To coincide with the David Bowie is exhibition coming to ACMI in Melbourne, we've partnered up with Tourism Victoria to present a week of all things Ziggy Stardust. Films featuring Bowie (Fire Walk With Me, Labyrinth, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Zoolander and more) will be accompanied by dress-up nights, live music and themed cocktails. We'll also be screening the David Bowie is documentary, but to top that, all ticket-holders will also be in with the chance to win a trip to Melbourne to experience the exhibition in person. Let's dance!
SYDNEY EXCLUSIVE – THE TRIBE
A recent sell-out at the Sydney Film Festival and winner of the Critics' Week Grand Prize at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, The Tribe is showing exclusively at Golden age in NSW for a limited release. Unlike anything you've seen before (seriously!), The Tribe is performed entirely in Ukrainian sign language without subtitles or a single word of spoken dialogue and the actors are all hearing impaired non-professionals. Do not miss this absolutely unforgettable cinema experience.
CALIFORNIA DREAMIN'
Paul Dano and John Cusack play Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson at two pivotal moments in his life in the new release film Love & Mercy. We're matching screenings of this film with some other tripped out California films set in the 60s and 70s including the newly remastered Zabriskie Point by Antonioni, Almost Famous and Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights and Inherent Vice.
BABY I GOT THE BLUES
Amy tracks the rise and inevitable fall of enormously talented, enigmatic performer Amy Winehouse, who claimed she never wanted to be a star and meant it. Her total love and devotion for music has inspired the programming of complementary films The Blues Brothers, Whiplash, and Dirty Dancing. Amy's signature big hair and style is celebrated too with screenings of John Waters' films Polyester (in Odorama!) and Crybaby.
