The Green Hornet has fought off a bear and a dancer to stand at the top of the weekend’s local box office.
The Sony Pictures 3D blockbuster took in just over $3 million Down Under, having a healthy screen average of $10,464 (across 289 screens).
Starring Hollywood A-listers Seth Rogen and Cameron Diaz, the superhero flick – based on the 1930s radio program
– opened at number one in front of last week’s top movie Yogi Bear, which on the weekend still raked in another $2.5 million (from 385 screens).
The widely talked about Black Swan, featuring Oscar hopeful Natalie Portman, took an impressive $2.22 million from just 168 screens, giving it a screen average of more than $13,000.
After three weeks at the local box office, Disney’s 50th animated film Tangled continued to do well in fourth spot making a further $2.1 million, making its total almost $18 million Down Under.
The King’s Speech came in fifth on the weekend but is still generating box office dollars and hype before next month's Academy Awards.
The Tom Hooper drama took in another $1.8 million across 183 screens, making its total $15.2 million in Australia.
