FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) has sold the wildlife game show Bindi’s Bootcamp to Discovery Kids Asia.
FME, a division of FremantleMedia, is responsible for the brand licensing and distribution rights of Bindi’s Bootcamp which is the first production resulting from FME’s partnership with Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin and Australia Zoo. It was produced in association with Sydney-based Sticky Pictures, under commission from ABC, and debuted in July on ABC3.
The show has been an instant success with young Australian audiences. Hosted by Bindi Irwin and filmed at Australia Zoo, contestants are required to progress through physical and mental challenges in close encounter with Australian wildlife. Successful contestants are titled ‘Wildlife Warriors’.
FME Asia Pacific chief executive Jon Penn said: “We have been thrilled with the quality of this uniquely Australian format and its engaging and talented young star Bindi Irwin, not to mention its ratings success on ABC3. This new deal with Discovery Kids in Asia shows that there is strong demand in markets outside Australia for original live-action kids’ entertainment, and that Bindi’s Bootcamp is a unique and exciting Australian leader in this genre.”
Bindi Irwin is also set to star in Nim’s Island 2, which is currently being filmed on the Gold Coast. Bindi takes the role of Nim Rusoe, originally performed by Abigail Breslin. The cast includes Toby Wallace, Matthew Lillard, Nathan Derrick and John Waters.
