Google and YouTube executives will take part in two sessions at Screen Forever: SPAA Conference to offer insight into the workings of the two companies and to outline opportunities available in the online landscape.
“Google and YouTube have increasingly important roles in content discoverability and distribution. Their global relationship to the production industry is significant for the ongoing vitality of the Australian sector, so to have access to those at the centre of the online boom will be a great opportunity for delegates,” said Matthew Deaner, Executive Director, SPAA.
The first session is Google – The Culture Boom online – on Tuesday 19 November at 9:00 am.
Led by Derek Slater, Global Public Policy Manager, Google, the session will focus on protecting and promoting content online. With new business models emerging for producing online content for financial return, Australia is in a good position to reap the benefits. Slater will be joined by:
Iarla Flynn, Head of Public Policy and Government Affairs, Google – Australia
Damian Kassabgi, Manager Public Policy, Google – Australia
Felicity McVay, Strategic Partnerships, YouTube – Australia
Kristen Bowen, Manager, Content Partnerships, YouTube – Australia
California-based Slater later joined Google in 2007. He works in the company’s central public policy team focussing on matters relating to content and culture online.
The second session is Multi-Channel Networks and YouTube, a Masterclass – Wednesday 20 November at 12:15 pm
The boom in online video – 1 billion people go to YouTube each month; 100 hours of video are uploaded every minute – has given rise to a new type of media company, the Multi-Channel Network (MCN). Kristen Bowen, Manager, Content Partnerships, YouTube will head an in-depth session on this new “ecosystem”. She will be joined by three leading local MCNs.
US-born Bowen lives in Sydney. A UCLA graduate, she has been with YouTube since 2007 and was one of the early employees in their San Bruno, California headquarters. For the past two years she managed partnerships with the UK television broadcasters at Google UK.
Registrations are now open at screenforever.org.au. The conference dates are November 19-21.
