Aussie actor Alex Russell has been cast in the upcoming remake of Stephen King's prom night horror story Carrie.
Russell will star alongside Chloe Moretz (Kick Ass, Dark Shadows) and Julianne Moore (The Kids are All Right, Crazy, Stupid, Love) in the remake as Billy Nolan – the same role which kickstarted John Travolta's career in the original 1970s film.
"I'm really, really happy," Russell told IF last Saturday, the morning after hearing the news. "I celebrated quite hard last night."
Carrie is the story of a timid girl with telekinetic powers who destroys her hometown after being pushed too far by the school's popular kids on prom night.
Russell, who was seen recently in found footage film Chronicle and last year's Wasted on the Young, will play one of her tormentors. Filming commences in June, with Boys Don't Cry director Kimberly Peirce directing.
Russell is represented by United Management in Australia and ROAR in the US.
