The city of Parramatta has long played a significant part in the Australian film industry with the hit indie Australian film, Çedar Boys, starring Rachael Taylor having filmed on the streets of Parramatta. The film garnered amazing reviews and went on to be nominated at the 2009 IF Awards in the Best Feature Film category. Australia’s hottest new talent – Underbelly’s Firass Dirani starred in the controversial film The Combination which explored the relations between Lebanese Australians and Anglo Australians in parts of Western Sydney. Principal photography for the film was also shot primarily around the suburb of Parramatta and is the main backdrop for majority of the movie. The highly anticipated sequel The Kings of Mykonos: Wog Boy 2 also personally selected the city to host an intimate Q&A session with Nick Giannopoulos paying tribute to their loyal fan base within the area and the heritage of the film franchise.
IF rating booths will be set up in the mall to rate films as well as trailers from recent Australian films being shown on a 12 square metre screen. Food and drink stands will be onsite to entice the lunch time crowds to come along and get involved as well as plenty of giveaways such as DVD’s from Madman, ICON and Hopscotch and movie vouchers from Palace.
The top films eligible to be rated for the IF Awards are: Accidents Happen, Animal Kingdom, Beneath Hill 60, The Boys Are Back, Bran Nue Dae, Bright Star, Charlie & Boots, Daybreakers, I Love You Too, The Kings of Mykonos: Wog Boy 2, Mao’s Last Dancer, Matching Jack, Triangle.
