Press release from AccessPR
Freeview, Australia’s free digital television service, today welcomed the Seven Network’s announcement that it will launch its new digital channel, 7mate, on September 25.
7mate will mark the first time a commercial TV network in Australia has launched a “third channel”, and will provide Australian viewers with more great quality programs on digital TV – for free.
The Seven Network today unveiled details of 7mate’s launch, which will kick off with full high definition coverage of the AFL Grand Final on Saturday, September 25.
Freeview CEO Robin Parkes said: “Freeview is thrilled to be welcoming 7mate as the latest new digital TV channel to Australian screens next month.
“Freeview has something to suit the tastes of every viewer, and with 7mate’s unique programming, our appeal will be even broader, offering Australians an incredible variety to choose from – and all for free,” Parkes said.
According to the Seven Network, the new 7mate channel’s program line-up will cater to a male audience of 16-49 year olds, designed to complement the programming offered on Seven and 7TWO.
“The pace and scope of Freeview’s expansion since we launched less than two years ago has been extraordinary,” Parkes said. “In late 2008 there were just five free TV channels in Australia – the launch of 7mate as the newest free digital channel next month is another fantastic milestone in Freeview’s continuing development.”
