Press release from the Cameron Creswell Agency
Australian screenwriter Max Mannix’s WWII drama Yellow Earth has been selected for the 2010 Tokyo Project Gathering- the international co-production market running alongside the Tokyo International Film Festival.
Yellow Earth recounts the story of the Cowra breakout- one of the largest prison escape attempts of WWII. The POW camp based near the small NSW town of Cowra was occupied largely by Japanese soldiers who, in 1944 staged a mass breakout in which hundreds of prisoners escaped.
Writer/director Max Mannix spent 11 years working and living in Japan and is best known for penning the stunning Japanese family drama Tokyo Sonata, which was awarded the Un Certain Regard prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008. Max returns to the TPG following his success last year with his feature project Family Matters. Bought by Kino Films in Japan, Family Matters is set for production in early 2011.
The TPG gathers projects from around Asia and the globe in a wide variety of genres and stages of production. Entering its sixth year, the TPG will be held at the Roppongi Mori Tower from October 25-28, 2010.
