Create NSW names acting executive director

Grainne Brunsdon.

Grainne Brunsdon has been named acting executive director of Create NSW following the resignation of Michael Brealey, who departs at the end of this month.

Director, engagement, partnerships and development, Brunsdon will fill the role until April 20. After that Tarek Barakat, director, strategic policy, research and projects, will act in the position until the end of May.

By then, presumably, the recruitment process either will be well under way or a successor will have been chosen.

Brealey quit after 13 months in the role following the merger of Arts NSW and Screen NSW, a forced union which appears to have constrained the screen agency which finds it hard to compete with the far better resourced and pro-active Film Victoria and Screen Queensland.

Brunsdon was acting CEO of Screen NSW after Maureen Barron stepped down in 2015 until the appointment of Courtney Gibson.

Gibson departed when Brealey got the top job at Create NSW and subsequently joined Jungle Entertainment as MD. She left the company at the end of last year.

Kahlee Rose, Create NSW senior manager, strategic communications, will act in Brunsdon’s role while the latter is acting executive director.
