Acclaimed film author, commentator and curator joins Rev

After more than a decade of defining the creative independent space in Australia, the Revelation Perth International Film Festival is again cranking the handle, tightening the spring and scouring the planet for the best signature–driven works direct from the international scene.
Rev has always been enormously proud of its capacity in working with screen artists around the country in developing ideas, skills and curatorial opportunities and for 2008 the event is pleased to welcome on board new Program Director, Jack Sargeant.
Jack is known internationally for his dynamic and inventive program stylings that have embraced all manner of forms and genres across all manner of festival and screen cultural activity.
Noted film author, academic, programmer and film gun for hire (dressed in black and all!), Jack’s impressive resume includes some of the definitive publications in the more ‘exotic’ sides of film. Publications include No Focus: Punk On Film, Lost Highways: An Illustrated History of the Road Movie, Deathtripping: The Cinema of Transgression, Naked Lens: Beat Cinema and many more. Jack has curated programs for the, Australian Centre for the Moving Image, the Chauvel Cinema, the Brisbane International Film Festival, London Institute of Contemporary Art, New York and Chicago Underground Film Festivals, the Brussels Royal Film Archive, Brighton Cinematheque, San Francisco Artists Television Access and the Melbourne Underground Film Festival amongst others.
Rev’s first contact with Jack came in 2000 where it crossed paths with the man in the curating of the enormously successful Beat Retrospective with which Jack was instrumental in programming.
The 2008 program will continue to embrace Rev’s special blend of documentary, feature film experimental, animation and hybrid works screening over ten days in July. It will also include a range of local and international guests who will engage in 4 masterclasses throughout the event.
Taking place across screens in Perth Rev unspools from July 10-20 with the 2008 event set to take another dynamic turn with Jack’s energetic and visionary program style.
‘I’ve worked with Jack on a number of projects over the years,’ notes Rev Chairman Richard Sowada ‘and one thing I can promise Rev audiences is that there’ll be no shortage of deep-cover detective work in bringing this program to you. His knowledge and experience in acquiring the more unusual titles and ideas in this country is second to none.’
Revelation gratefully acknowledges the support of the Australian Film Commission and ScreenWest.
