Nexus 6 Films announces new Aussie movie for US Cinemas

Nexus 6 Films today announced that its upcoming feature-length movie Crush will be produced in Perth, Western Australia, before being distributed in the United States and other international territories.

Crush tells the story of Julian Meadows, an American exchange student and disgraced Tae Kwon Do champion whose life is transformed into a living hell after being seduced by the mysterious yet beautiful, Anna.

According to Nexus 6 Films producer Deidre Kitcher, Perth was the obvious choice of location for the $2 million thriller.

‘While we have a few people flying in from the east coast of Australia, we’ve been lucky enough to secure a predominantly local cast and crew who are experienced and very talented,’ said Kitcher.

‘That said, we are finalising negotiations to bring one Aussie star home from Hollywood this Christmas to assume the lead role of Julian, so watch this space!’

Crush is the brain child of Western Australian screenwriter, John V. Soto, who is also co-directing the production with industry veteran Jeff Gerritsen, whom he describes as ‘experienced, technically brilliant and totally on the same wavelength’.

While Crush marks Soto’s feature directorial debut, he is by no means a novice in the industry. His horror script Prey – filmed under the direction of George Miller (The Man from Snowy River and The Never Ending Story II) and starring Rogue Traders singer and Neighbours star Natalie Bassingthwaighte – is due for cinematic release in August 2008, while his thriller Needle has also recently been optioned.

Filming will take place in and around Perth from 2 January to 8 February 2008.

Crush is planned to open in cinemas across the United States early 2009, with an Australian release expected later that year.
