Documentaries at Sydney Film Festival
Documentaries continue to rise in popularity at Sydney Film Festival in an ever-growing program. In 2013, you can enjoy 51 feature-length documentaries at SFF, on many subjects, at many venues, at all times of day.
From the 10 finalists in the Foxtel Australian Documentary competition, to the 32 programmed in International Documentaries, two in the Official Competition and seven in the Sounds on Screen section, you will be spoilt for choice and torn between screenings.
In so many cases, this will be your only chance to see many of these films in the cinema.
Amongst the extraordinary diversity on offer are some major prizewinners, including Dragon Girls (pictured above) which won at Hot Docs, The Machine Which Makes Everything Disappear and A River Changes Course that won at Sundance and SXSW winner William and the Windmill.
The Summit
This dramatic and beautifully filmed documentary combines survivor interviews, re-enactments and actual footage to tell the tragic story of the day 11 mountain climbers died on the world's second-highest peak.
William and the Windmill
The inspiring and affectionate portrait of a young Malawian who met with sudden dizzying success after giving a TED talk about building a homemade windmill won a Grand Jury Award at Sundance.
