Filming has completed on filmmaker duo director Stuart Willis’ and producer Toby Gibson’s science-fiction miniseries Restoration after 16 days of principal photography.
“Shooting with a great crew and cast for one week in Docklands Studios Melbourne and two weeks on location was a pleasure. We got some really exciting footage with amazing performances from our ensemble cast and we can't wait to sink our teeth into editing,” says Willis.
Nadia Townsend (Knowing, City Homicide), Grant Cartwright (MTC’s The Crucible, Death Star PR), Stephen Carracher (Vanished) and Rosie Lourde (Felony) lead the cast of Restoration, a sci-fi story co-written by Willis and screenwriter Matthew Clayfield.
Set in a near-future world where humans have their memories downloaded for backup, it tells the story of a man, Oliver Klein, who awakes with his memories restored into a body that is not his own.
Post Production and VFX specialists Cutting Edge provided invaluable back end support during the shoot. “Not only did our team enjoy working on this ambitious project it also allowed us to trial some new ways of supporting the production process,” says Cutting Edge Executive Producer John Fleming.
According to Gibson, “Having the opportunity to review dailies from the cloud server provided a stress free workflow that ensured confidence during production and allowed the team to focus on making the best film possible”
Restoration is a Midnight Snack Production produced by Toby Gibson and co-written by Willis and Clayfield. Now with the commencement of post-production, the intention is to release as both a one hour segment and three-part miniseries.
Gibson provides a positive outlook: “It’s exciting to commence post production knowing we have what promises to be an exciting product in our hands as we actively explore broad avenues for future distribution."
