SAFC announces SA Production Attraction Grant recipients

The South Australian Film Corporation has announced the 2014 recipients of its Production Attraction Grant, many of whom will be attending the Screen Forever conference in Melbourne next week.

The successful recipients are AntHouse, Cyan Films, Go Patterson Films, Kirsty Stark, Projector Films, and Southern Light Alliance. They join five South Australian companies who have a track record in co-production listed on the SAFC Co-Production Register. The SAFC has introduced a range of SAFC incentives designed to reward collaboration between these SA companies and non-SA producers.

“The benefit of having a proven local South Australian producer working hand in hand with an interstate or overseas producer on a project destined for South Australia is immeasurable,” said SAFC CEO Richard Harris.

“Producers who understand the difference local knowledge and know-how can make to a budget’s bottom line stand to benefit greatly from an SA co-production partnership.”

With Screen Australia’s drama report revealing more than 9% of drama production was undertaken in South Australia in 2013/14 the state’s reputation as a preferred destination for independent screen production continues to grow.

Producers partnering with SA screen companies, gain access to in-depth knowledge of SA Heads of Department, SA locations, equipment hire, facilities and other day-to-day production needs, including transport, catering and accommodation within Adelaide and regional SA.

They also benefit from established relationships with local authorities, thereby increasing the likelihood of quick access, fast-tracking of permit approvals and permission to shoot in a variety of Adelaide and SA locations.

Non-SA producers can take advantage of SAFC incentives designed to reward collaboration with SA producers. They include the Adelaide Studios Heads of Department incentive which benefits producers who use Adelaide Studios and who employ South Australian HOD’s on their project. The SAFC returns a percentage of the studio hire as an increase in investment with up to 40% for non-SA Producers and up to 60% when partnered with an SA Producer
