AFTRS plugs in to Portable

AFTRS – Australia’s premier film, television, digital media and radio training institution – is supporting the 2007 Portable Film Festival in bringing innovative short films to audiences – wherever they may be.
Launching tomorrow August 1, the Portable Film Festival presents the best in short films, all available on the internet. A selection of short films and user created content is delivered to users completely online and distributed through portable media devices including video iPods, Sony PSPs, laptops or mobile phones. The festival can be accessed from anywhere in the world, and best of all it’s free!
The 2007 programme features 150 short films and videos across 5 categories. 700 entries were received from around the world, and the finalists include:

* Short animation from Bill Plympton’s studio in New York
* Episodes from acclaimed online serials including Ask A Ninja and Lonely Girl 15
* Documentaries from Australian filmmakers including Diarmid Heidenreich and Genevieve Bailey
* Mercury Prize nominated artists in the Music Video section
Organisers are hoping to attract over 150 000 festival goers, where visitors to their new site will be able to curate their own festival, choosing what material they wish to download. A series of events will also be staged as a part of the Portable Film Festival, including the Portable Screen Academy and the Portable Screen Symposium.
AFTRS is proud to be involved as a major sponsor and education partner, in this innovative festival that supports and celebrates emerging filmmaking talent.
