[press release from WA Screen Academy]
Sony Australia is bringing a large venue High Definition projector to Western Australia for the Screen Academy’s gala screening of six short films made with the graduating WAAPA acting class.
The films were shot on the Sony XDCAM EX (PMW-EX1) cameras and this will be the first opportunity to see them projected in HD on the big screen at Luna Cinema, Leederville on October 4th.
Director of the WA Screen Academy, John Rapsey, says, “We are delighted and grateful to Sony for making it possible for the students and public to see the films at the full resolution and brightness they were filmed in.
The six WAAPA films are linked by the theme of ‘Signs’ interpreted in a variety of ways – from the revenge of a Ouija board to a black comedy about premonitions to a wicked satire of advertising. The WA Screen Academy students in writing, producing, directing, cinematography, editing and sound work closely with WAAPA Production & Design and Music Composition students and Graphic Designers from the School of Contemporary Arts in a unique collaboration between programs.
Now in its fourth year, the WA Screen Academy is a one-year intensive industry preparation program for students with a previous degree or Advanced Diploma. It has quickly earned a reputation as one of the country’s leading screen training programs with awards at a number of national and international festivals and an admirable record of employment.
Sony Australia’s Product Manager for Professional Display Group, Les Boros will fly in from Sydney to supervise the set-up of the projector – a Sony VPL-FH300L – which will be used in WA for the first time. John Rapsey says,” It’s one thing to see the films in HD on a TV and will be something else altogether to see them on Luna’s huge 9 metre by 4 metre screen.”
