In October, Queensland filmmakers continued to receive national and international recognition for their talents.
Townsville’s Digital Dimensions was awarded the Arts and Entertainment Award at The Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards 2008.
The objectives of the awards are to showcase Australia’s top exporters, promote them as role models and encourage other Australian businesses to strive for success in world markets.
Digital Dimensions produces documentaries and factual programming and is currently in production with the multi-platform children’s series Creature Connections.
Another Queensland children’s series, Animalia, received Best Children’s Television Production Award at this year’s EnhanceTV ATOM (Australian Teachers of Media) Awards.
Animalia received the award for Episode 18 ‘What’s the Good Word?’ of the series from Burberry Productions created using the leading-edge technology of Gold Coast company Photon VFX.
Queensland’s documentary talent received international recognition with producer Vickie Gest nominated for an American ‘Women’s Image Network Award’ in the category Produced by a Woman Outstanding Show or Film for her documentary Roller Derby Dolls.
Women’s Image Network (WIN) applauds movie stars, television artists, media makers, politicians and others who help level the playing field for women. Its biggest event is The WIN Awards which honours media work that dispels female stereotypes.
