AFTRS producing graduate to receive LA placement

Press release from Screen Australia

Screen Australia, The Gotham Group and Village Roadshow Pictures are pleased to announce a Hollywood-based internship to be awarded to a student from this year’s Graduate Diploma in Producing course at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).

Provided through Screen Australia’s Talent Escalator Program, the producing graduate will land a coveted intenship working at Los Angeles–based Village Roadshow Pictures, under the tutelage of Vice President of Production Matt Skiena, and at The Gotham Group, one of Los Angeles’ foremost talent agencies, working with Luke Sandler. Valued at $20,000, the internship will take place from January 2012 for four months.

Screen Australia’s Head of Development Martha Coleman said, “This opportunity has been designed to expose a bright producing graduate to the market realities of working at a major production company and the business of packaging projects. The experience gained working with Matt Skiena and Luke Sandler at these two great companies will give the participant a strong grounding at the start of their career.”

The prize was designed in consultation with AFTRS’ Neil Peplow, Director of Screen Content Division, and CEO Sandra Levy.

Says Neil Peplow, “AFTRS is committed to providing opportunities for our students to prepare for life after graduation. Screen Australia has given our students a great chance to gain market experience that will draw into sharp focus how the international film industry works.”

AFTRS has begun the application process for the internship, with the selection to be announced towards the end of the year.
