Young 20-year-old film director Kane Christopher has taken out one of the top film industry awards for a music video he directed in July. Being presented with ‘Bronze’ by the Australian Cinematographers Society in November for ‘Best Music Video’, this honour is one of the highest available in the Australian film industry. This is the second consecutive award for the young director, taking out ‘Best Comedy’ earlier this year at the New York Int Film Festival for his film ‘Useless’. It is believed that Kane is the youngest non-student ACS member to have ever received this type of recognition in Australian history. In competition with some of the leading artists around the world including Warner Music’s Eskimo Joe, Sony Music’s Brooke Fraser, and Universal Music’s Room Eleven – The video was shot for a relatively low budget in comparison to the competition, and was entirely produced within an astonishing one week.
Kane Christopher was against the top cinematographers in the country, dominated by accredited members with decades of experience. Kane’s work is taking him all over the world, beginning to set a pattern of breaking world history, he has plans for several music video shoots in early 2008 – The Netherlands, USA, Spain and Morocco are some locations on the menu – The artists cannot be disclosed at this time.
Kane is running two companies at present with a third in development, along with representing an Australian musician, and directing and producing a long line of music video and film productions, his plate is very full, yet he is keen to continue expanding his palette of work.
‘I’m really just starting out, I’m enjoying what I do for a job and can’t thank God enough for the opportunities I’ve had’.
Life hasn’t always been so rosy for Kane Christopher, being dealt with his fair share of traumatic experiences throughout the years, but believes that these life experiences are meant for a bigger picture, ‘I can’t answer the question as to why devastating things happen, all I know is that every experience you endure makes you a bigger person if you choose to tackle the situation with positivity, regardless of what line of work you do, it builds character and ultimately gives you a strength you never had before’.
Kane has been seen attending theatre drama performances across Sydney, scouting local talent for upcoming productions. ‘I want to be able to give people just like myself an opportunity to shine, there is a lot of incredible talent out there, it just needs to be discovered’.
