Long Weekend, the first Australian feature to utilise the ARRIFLEX D-20, has wrapped its five week shoot in Victoria’s south east, with further pick ups planned for February.
The film, a remake of the 1978 Australian thriller of the same name, stars Jim Caveziel and Claudia Karvan in the lead roles. Jamie Blanks is directing, having just completed low budget thriller Storm Warning, which is due to local release later this year.
DOP Karl von Moeller told Inside Film two of the D-20s were used for the shoot, and went really well despite the challenges of filming in harsh weather.
‘The camera is really robust and it’s engineered really well. We were filming on location, in harsh winds, 40 degree heat, rain, dust and sand, and the camera never faltered. They were very reliable and surprised me on a daily basis, just how remarkable the images looked,’ he said.
Von Moeller most recently shot Storm Warning with Blanks, and before that was the Australian unit DOP for British heist film The Bank Job.
