Petra Buchanan's tenure as chief executive of Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA) will end in March 2013.
Buchanan has led the subscription-TV (STV) association since 2009 and will extend her current contract (which ends in September) by six months before moving onto another role. The extended management period will allow a smooth transition to a yet-to-be-appointed chief executive, according to the ASTRA board.
ASTRA chairman Steve Bracks said that Buchanan had led policy and regulation as well as raising the profile and awareness around the investment and activities of the STV industry.
Buchanan said her time with ASTRA had been one of the most exciting in her 20-year career.
“I am pleased to have grown the reputation and influence of ASTRA at a time of great change in the media and television sector," she said in a statement. "I have achieved what I set out to do and am proud of the accomplishments made during my leadership at ASTRA."
Her time included overseeing the sector's response to government reviews including the convergence review, new legislation of captioning and issues regarding spectrum access for STV.
