Beautiful Kate wins big award

The 12th edition of the Festival des Antipodes, the annual festival of Australian and New Zealand films held on the French riviera town of St Tropez, awarded the Grand Jury prize to Australian film Beautiful Kate.

Actress Sophie Lowe, who plays the role of Kate, accepted the prize on behalf of the film makers, from this year’s Antipodes Film Festival Jury President, Miranda Otto. Beautiful Kate competed alongside other Antipodean films Balibo, Home by Christmas, Bran Nue Day, Boy and The Waiting City.

Best actress nod went to Radha Mitchell for her role in Claire McCarthy’s The Waiting City, while best actor prize went to Anthony LaPaglia for his role in Balibo.

The Audience award, sponsored by Cinefestoz, went to The Waiting City.

The jury, presided by Otto, was comprised of Australian personalities, Colette Dinnigan, Tina Arena, French actress Sophie Guillemin, French film director Philippe Harel and film historian Gérard Camy.

Also in attendance at the festival were Cameron Daddo presenting the Michael Bond directed Passengers; Luke Davies for Candy and his short-film Air, actress Bonnie Sveen for the short film Violet; Natalie Eleftheriadis and James Harkness for Birthday.
