Blue Mountains Film Festival announces new Scenic World venue

Press release from Blue Mountains Film Festival

The Blue Mountains Film Festival is relocating & expanding its scope for 2011. The big news for this year is the festival's new venue – Scenic World. "We are very very excited to have access to Scenic World's facilities. The use of their purpose built Scenic Cinema for our screenings will be a huge boost to the festival" said festival director Tom Taylor.

The festival is also extending its guidelines to include films of up to twenty minutes in length. "Short film submissions are being received almost daily and we have already seen some really great entries, so it looks like it's going to be a fantastic lineup" Mr Taylor said.

This year the festival is also offering more than $3000 in prizes to filmmakers, thanks to major sponsor, Scenic World and the category sponsors, SONY, The Fairmont Resort, Missy Confidential, & Blue Mountains Mazda. A new 6th prize will also be presented – Audience Favorite, also sponsored by SONY.

Each category winner will receive a 'Yowie', the festival's new award statuette, to be designed by talented Blue Mountains designer Paul Begg. Judging the short films will be a panel of well known and well respected film and television industry personalities.

The festival program will be screened over three days. General screenings on Thursday 13th & Friday 14th of October will start at 7:30pm and include a short intermission with drinks & refreshments available for purchase.

The finalists in each category will then be screened on the 15th of October, followed by the awards presentation. The festival will offer drinks and canapes as part of the awards night ticket price. "The awards will be held in the Skyway Restaurant, with spectacular views of the Three Sisters & the Jamieson Valley" said Mr Taylor.

Ticket sales for the 13th, 14th & 15th will be restricted to 18 years and over due to some adult content.

The festival is open for submissions until the 16th of September, so get your entries in…
