C31 now in digital

Press release from Handmade TV

The Station will run a test broadcast for 2 weeks, before officially starting on the 11th of June.

“It’s a tremendously exciting time for the station” said general manager Richard McLelland. “We are looking forward to being able to provide relevant and local content to a much larger audience across the city.”

The launch onto the digital spectrum represents a new dawn for community television in Melbourne. The Federal Labour Government granted community television in Australia access to the digital spectrum in November 2009, after a long and hard fought campaign driven largely by the passion of Melbournians.

C31 has a strong and proud history in Melbourne and Geelong. The station can now build with confidence and continue to provide open access to all people, experiment with new and exciting content and provide training and support for students and volunteers aspiring to get into the mainstream industry. C31 will continue to provide locally produced, locally flavoured entertainment for the people of Melbourne and Geelong.

“People in this city love C31.” said Mr McLelland. “They love the blemishes and imperfections, they love the fact that it is raw and that it is real. They love the fact that it is made by their neighbours and their friends, they love the fact that is about their own lives and their own communities, but most of all people love it because it is just good honest entertainment.”
