The Australian team behind upcoming feature film Dust & Glory have formed a partnership with US-based Blue Star Entertainment to produce the outback adventure tale next year.
Blue Star counts films such as Middle Men, Role Models, Bangkok Dangerous and the 2003 Australian-shot horror film Darkness Falls, among its credits.
"This is a fantastic script and a great story combining two things I love: classic race cars and the Australian landscape,” Blue Star partner Jason Shuman said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be returning Down Under.”
The film, based on the Evan Green novel of the same name, tells the true story of the 1950’s redex trials: the longest, roughest, toughest and craziest car race in the world. The race inspired the country, which focused on the rivalry between an American hotshot and an Australian legend.
The film project originated with writer/producer Robert Lewis Galinsky (Prey), producers Elizabeth Howatt-Jackman (Hating Alison Ashley, Prey) and David Parker (The Big Steal, Matching Jack), and Australian businessman Geoffrey Edelsten, who takes an executive producer role. Blue Star partner William Sherak is also involved with the production alongside Shuman.
Galinsky said: "This film has been our passion for quite a few years and we are excited to be working alongside William and Jason to help bring it to life."
Associate producer Zach Green brought the deal between Blue Star and Dust & Glory to fruition.
