PRESS RELEASE
The Australian National Maritime Museum is pleased to announce that the short film commissioned for its East of India exhibition earlier this year, Indian Aussies – Terms & Conditions Apply, has been nominated for awards in three categories at the London International Film Festival.
Indian Aussies – Terms & Conditions Apply presents the contemporary relationship between India and Australia, with a focus on the personal stories of Australians with Indian heritage. It was directed by one of Australia's most well-known Indian film makers, Anupam Sharma of Film & Temple Casting, and features interviews with prominent and pioneering Indian Australians.
The film has been nominated in three categories: Best Short Documentary, Best Direction for a Short Documentary, and Best Cinematography. Winners will be announced on Friday 18 October.
The exhibition East of India – Forgotten trade with Australia tracked Australia’s colonial links with India, the power and monopoly of the English East India Company, and it’s inevitable decline.
“We are delighted that the short film – Indian Aussies – Terms & Conditions Apply, part of the successful East of India exhibition, has received such fantastic international recognition,” said museum director Kevin Sumption.
“The exhibition was a gave look at Australia’s links with India and this film provided a contemporary perspective. Our congratulations go to Anupam Sharma and his team,” he said.
Director and producer Anupam Sharma said, "We feel doubly privileged. First to be given the opportunity to make a film for the National Maritime Museum, and then to be nominated in three categories at the London International Film Festival. It’s as though we have already won.”
