Ed Oxenbould to star in Being Gavin.
Father and son Jamie and Ed Oxenbould are set to appear on screen together for the first time in new Australian film Being Gavin.
Being Gavin is a black comedy about, well, being Gavin.
Gavin, married to his wife and ignored by his son, runs a café. Then along comes Samantha, looking for a job. Samantha, a frustrated singer, has big ideas for Gavin – but not all of them are to do with coffee.
Mark Kilmurry's (artistic director, ensemble theatre) debut feature film will also be the first time film audiences will see the Oxenbould father and son acting combination together on screen.
The creative team behind Being Gavin are taking a collaborative approach, with first time feature writing duties shared between Sara Bovolenta (UK) and Mark Kilmurry.
Kilmurry said he went into acting to make films.
"It has only taken me 30 years to finally do that – but I am so glad it is this one and making it a reality with Owen and 76 Pictures. I love film," he said.
"I grew up watching films. I love a romantic comedy if it hits the right side of reality – Annie Hall, When Harry Met Sally, Being There, The Apartment. I can’t wait to make Being Gavin with these wonderful actors.‘
Kilmurry will be co-directing with second time feature film director Owen Elliott (Bathing Franky).
Elliot said Kilmurry and Bovalenta's script was smart, funny and astutely observed.
"It cries out for a great cast. Jamie and Ed have that authentic father-son thing plus wonderful comic and dramatic chops."
The film will shoot the film in and around Sydney's lower north shore.
Being Gavin is slated to begin production later this year.
More cast members will be announced in the coming weeks.
Ed Oxenbould said Ed said he was looking forward to working with his dad for the first time.
"Its something I’ve always thought I’d do one day," he said.
"I just hope his character is a little bit cooler than he is… and doesn’t crack any bad dad jokes.’
Jamie Oxenbould said he didn't think he would ever to get work with a "seasoned pro like Ed.
"I’m looking forward to picking up some acting tips. OMG, I might even get a selfie with him on set.’
