Ritz Cinemas, Randwick continues to celebrate its 85th birthday by announcing Australia on Celluloid, a year of Australian Classics presented on 35mm prints. Proudly presented by Ritz Cinemas, the National Film and Sound Archive and Umbrella Entertainment, Australia on Celluloid is a historical celebration of Australia's rich and unique film heritage, with special 35mm screenings of iconic and overlooked films from the NFSA's Kodak/Atlab and Deluxe/Kodak collections presented together for the first time. Ritz Cinemas in Randwick has announced a This Is Celluloid retrospective, featuring a lineup of 35mm and 70mm screenings every Friday night from 10 March to showcase cinematic triumphs from the 1920s to the present day across almost 40 weeks. The program kicks off with a 35mm screening of Michael Mann's modern crime masterpiece Heat on Friday 10 March. As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, AFTRS will screen a series of acclaimed feature films directed by AFTRS alumni, beginning with Phillip Noyce's Dead Calm at 6.30pm on March 28. The screening will also feature a special video introduction from Noyce. Each film in this series was directed by an AFTRS alumnus and almost all feature alumni in key creative roles including producers, cinematographers, editors, production designers, and costume designers.
