MIFF XR Commission – Applications

A philanthropic grant of $80,000 from artist and filmmaker Ling Ang will go towards the creation of an immersive XR work that “celebrates, interrogates, and illuminates” Melbourne, as well as Melbourne International Film Festival’s role in the city’s cultural sector. The XR Commission will premiere on the MIFF XR platform in 2022.

Denis Villeneuve Retrospective

Dendy Newtown will be hosting a program of Denis Villeneuve’s entire filmography in the lead up to the release of Dune on December 3. This includes Villeneuve’s earliest films August 32nd on Earth, Maelström, and Polytechnique (accompanied by his short film Next Floor), his Academy Award-nominated breakthrough Incendies, and his critically acclaimed films of recent years - Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario, Arrival, and Blade Runner 2049.

Sydney Women’s International Film Festival

The 2021 Sydney Women’s International Film Festival will be both an online and live event November 26 to 29 at United Cinemas, Opera Quays. The festival will showcase excellence in female storytelling with over 50 films selected from over 300 entries from across 41 countries. These include projects such as Victoria Wharf McIntyre’s fantasy/thriller Kassandra and the western mid-length film ‘The Face’ starring Jessica Di Costa.
